Telluride Lindy Society
Welcome

Named in honor of Ruth Marion Engeman Alt who passed away in October at the tender young age of 86, the purpose of the scholarship fund is to bring learning-disabled students from Colorado and the Four Corners region to Swing Camp Telluride.

Dancing has been proven to be physically healthy and also a way to strengthen coordination, brain reflexes, and social skills. At Swing Camp Telluride, students in the scholarship program will have a preliminary beginning swing dance lesson with a professional instructor, which will help prepare them for the other lessons offered over the course of the weekend. We believe this will be an exciting and unique opportunity for the youth of our area.

Ruth Alt was many things to many people, and to say she was constantly active  is an understatement. Her commitment to caring for others manifested itself in her unmatched volunteer hours at the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg, SC, as well as in the raising of a large, lovely family. And her zest for life was evident every time she danced, which was every chance she got. Ruth's dance floor could be linoleum, a sandy beach, or a living room carpet. All she needed was her partner and a tune. The Telluride Lindy Society is proud to memorialize Ruth by introducing her love of dance to others. May we never forget the Joy that is inherent in the Dance.
